Just a reminder: The Synthesis Essay (Chapter 4- The American High School page 248 in your textbook - must be uploaded to turnitin.com by 11:59 PM Monday night. I changed the due date from Sunday to Monday. Also, you MUST turn in a "hard-copy" of this assignment as you enter the class room on Tuesday, 29 April. Do not ask for permission to use the printer in the back of the class room.

This assignment was posted approximately TEN days ago [see below].

You have another assignment due on Tuesday-you have been reminded about this assignment in class since Wednesday [See assignment below-"DUE 29 April..."] I will NOT have EXTRA copies of this assignment available for distribution. Even though I have not EXPLICITLY directed you to annotate each of the PROMPTS and each of the PASSAGES, please feel free to do so.

AP Review Topics and Dates

AP Language and Composition: General Review Session
(CLICK on Link for a Listing of the Topics that will be Reviewed.)

NOTE: NO student will be admitted more than 10 minutes late for scheduled time indicated. Furthermore, I urge you to use the restroom prior to the start of the session since once you exit the classroom-you will not be permitted to re-enter the classroom. Also, you will not be permitted to obtain an additional "folder" with the resources for the session in order to give it to a "friend" who is not present for the session.  In fact, initially, the folder will contain a minimal of the handouts for the topics indicated on the topic review sheet. Materials will be disseminated throughout our time together as we approach each of the review topics. Keep in mind that those individuals who disrupt the session by engaging in conversations and/or those individuals who display their phones will be asked to leave the classroom-they will NOT be given a "second-chance" to improve their conduct.

General Review Session: Thursday, 24 April from 1530 to 1700 hours.
General Review Session: Friday, 25 April from 1430 to 1600 hours.
General Review Session: Monday, 28 April from 1530 to 1700 hours.

I will only accept a maximum of 36 students for each of the review sessions-arrive early and you will be guaranteed a seat...

Please Note: Specific Review Sessions for each of the Essay Questions will be announced shortly (Q1: The Synthesis Question; Q2: The Rhetorical Analysis Question; Q3: The Argument Question)

MOCK EXAMINATION, Saturday, 26 April 0900 to 1215'
The exam is allocated 3 hours and 15 minutes. I am asking EVERYONE to arrive by 0845 so that EVERYONE can begin the exam promptly at 0900. Once the exam begins anyone who arrives late will be directed to another room where you will WAIT for other individuals who are tardy before I start your examination. Bring your own coffee and a snack since they will NOT be provided by Diedrich and/or the school.

MOCK EXAMINATION, Wednesday, 30 April (HOURS TBA)

Wonders Never Cease...
Why would a group during our last cooperative learning activity take out a phone to "Google" the name of the title for the assigned essay so that they would be able to retrieve the answers to the multiple-choice questions? Diedrich is not "clueless" when he is walking around monitoring group activities. Recall how he insisted that everyone underline key words in each of the responses for the purpose of identifying a "distractor"? This particular group that will remain nameless (for now) simply wrote that word "distractor" next to two of the responses for each of the multiple choice questions, without "marking-up" any of the words in the answer choice. Why did Diedrich spend so much class time on this specific test-taking strategy-he clearly indicated what he desired from everyone?

A Closer Look at Logical Fallacies

Due Tuesday, 29 April 2014:

1) Please print out and read Question 2 (page 9) from the following link: America Needs its Nerds

2) Please print out and read Question 2 (page 3) from the following link: Alfred M. Green

3) Please print out and read Question 2 (page 10) from the following link: Florence Kelley

For each of these prompts, please come to class with a clear understanding of the prompt's purpose. We will work in class on deconstructing the prompt--looking at how each passage is composed. Feel free to annotate the text as desired-remember that this involves writing notes in the margins,,, You will not be directed to write a “written” response-you will “simply” share orally your analyses of the passages. If desired, examine the student samples released by the College Board.

I will check that you have entered Room 404 with your copies of these passages. Be advised that I will collect these passages prior to the end of the Band to prevent the "sharing" of your work with students in the other Bands.
