Why do you suppose this is referred to as "the greatest speech ever made"? Perhaps, after your study of Rhetoric in this class, you and your classmates will be able to engage in a meaningful and productive conversation...
A "brief" introduction to Classical Rhetoric. Take notes as you view this presentation...

Rhetoric: The Art of Persuasion (Interesting presentation from a college instructor.)

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

A REMINDER:

Upon release of your score on the AP English Language and Composition Examination, your final grade for English 6 will be adjusted, depending on whether or not you receive a 4 or a 5 for this to take place. When I return in September, I will submit the grade changes. Keep in mind that several of you did not exert much effort throughout the school-year and/or you interfered with the education of others-for those who fall into this category-we will discuss what changes if any should be made upon your return to school. If you have engaged in plagiarism and/or cheating during an assessment at any time during the school year, requesting a higher grade- based on your AP score- will also have to be discussed.

STUDENTS IN ALL THREE BANDS: YOU MUST BRING IN A PENCIL TO USE ON THE "BUBBLE-SHEET" FOR THE CITR 50+ MC ASSESSMENT on THURSDAY, 12 JUNE. Diedrich is no longer supplying them to students...
ATTENTION A-BAND STUDENTS:

The CITR assessment (50+) Multiple Choice Questions will begin promptly at 0813. If you arrive after the start of class, you will NOT be allocated any additional time after-school, regardless of the excuse. (Wake-up 15 minutes earlier-leave your home 15 minutes earlier-arrive to class prior to 0813-perhaps, for the first-time this school-year!) NO EXCUSES! NO EXCEPTIONS! NO NOTES FROM MOM OR DAD!

A Reminder: On Thursday, 13 June, ALL Bands will be administered a 50+ assessment on The Catcher in the Rye. Sadly, I have determined-based upon your Dialectical Journal Assignment-that many students did NOT read this text in its entirety! For those who did, you will do well. For those who did not, ...

ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION!
Too many students disregarded my directive to turn-in the "hard-copy" of the CITR Journal assignment on Wednesday, 4 June-even though their class was not scheduled to meet. As a result, I will deduct points for not complying with this requirement-unless you were absent from school-I will verify this with the Attendance Office. Furthermore, how is it possible to respond in one-two sentences in an analysis/discussion of a specific quote. Obviously, several students-in this college-level class- continue to submit mediocre/below average work. Much to my dismay, for the "intratextual" examples, students neglected to include another quote (on the right-hand side) that made a "connection" to the quote provided on the left-hand side of the journal...

EVERYONE HAD AN AMPLE OPPORTUNITY TO SUBMIT THE AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL SYNTHESIS ESSAY  TO TURNITIN.COM AND TO TURN IN A "HARD-COPY" OF THAT ESSAY. AS OF 1545 HOURS TODAY, I disabled the setting  permitting students to upload this assignment since some experienced difficulty doing so last week. This was done for those students who turned-in a "hard-copy" of the assignment last Tuesday. Remarkably, several students did not complete this assignment! NO EXCUSES! I will not accept this assignment late (refer to class contract) nor will I change the "0" to a passing grade.
